An actor and singer based in NYC, Liz Maurer has appeared on stage, television, and film. Growing up in Cincinnati with two standard poodles, she was prepped for her regional theater debut in the title role of Sylvia by A.R. Gurney at the Red Barn Theatre in Pittsburgh, where she was reviewed as “a well-groomed actress.” She has since gone on to build a theater career in New York and regionally, performing a range of major dramatic roles in plays by Ibsen, Lanford Wilson, Doug Wright, Gina Gionfriddo, Alan Ball, and Lee Blessing. She has also performed leading roles in musicals including Lola in Damn Yankees, and Lily St. Regis in Annie. Playing Audrey in two productions of Little Shop of Horrors was a particular delight since that was the first play she saw as a child with her mother in a wonderfully funny production at Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park. That experience opened her eyes to the joy of theater. She was also honored to star opposite the late, great and utterly adorable Mickey Rooney in Mickey Rooney’s Christmas Memories at the Tropicana Atlantic City.
Her on-camera work has ranged from a recent appearance on Showtime’s Billions, to supporting roles in independent films, and as a product specialist on QVC. She was a red-carpet host for BroadwayWorld, interviewing the likes of Glenn Close, Alan Cumming, and Bebe Neuwirth. Most memorable was her star-struck interview with Kermit the Frog, who flirtatiously invited her to Thai food.
Liz loves sharing her time and vocal talents with Sing for Your Seniors, a volunteer organization dedicated to bringing the healing benefits and joy of music to New York’s senior centers and assisted living communities. She was a featured backup singer (and sometimes bassist) for the New York underground, cult favorite band, Reverend Tribble and the Angels. They performed at legendary NY venues such as The Bottom Line, The Village Underground, The Bitter End, and The Continental. Additional singing gigs include performing with the Decibelles, an a capella doo-wop group, at weddings in New York and New Jersey, and as the national anthem soloist at St. Louis Cardinals’ game.
Liz holds a B.F.A in Acting & Musical Theater from Carnegie Mellon. She has continued her training in NYC with teachers such as Larry Moss, Patsy Rodenburg, and Alexandra Neil. Keeping a foot in the improv world, she has trained and performed with groups at The Magnet Theatre, Gotham City Improv, and Friday Night Face Off.
Liz is headed to Bristol Riverside Theatre to originate the role of Barbara in the world premiere of A Leg Up, a new farce written by co-artistic director Ken Kaissar opening Fall of 2022. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and toy poodle, Clara, who is known in the neighborhood for her “well-groomed” bright pink tail.
